The Shape Of Indoor Space

April 7, 2017 by GIPHY Arts

GIPHY Arts commissioned artist Peter Burr to create theshapeofindoor.space, a browser-sized work composed of 12 GIFs that together create a mesmerizing, pixelated patchwork maze.

theshapeofindoor.space depicts a section of a sprawling unfinished labyrinth. The form and philosophy of this structure was inspired by Burr’s trip to Arcosanti, an urban laboratory in the Arizona desert. It was designed by Paolo Soleri, an architect who propagated the idea of a building as a living body. This framework conceives of the building is a silicate organism and us as the soft stuff inside.
